Furlough Scheme Extension

As England went into another 4 week lockdown, from 2nd November, to 2nd December, the Government announced the extension of the Furlough scheme at the original 80% rate. It was then announced that this would be extended to Scotland and although there has been no official announcement or guidance published by the Scottish Government, the terms of the furlough as detailed on the original furlough extension guidance states that the scheme will operate in the same manner as before.  The reclaim process will be the same. It will also cover any employees employed by the business before the 30th October, replacing the previous June deadline.

SEISS Grant Update

The grant will be increased from the previously announced level of 40% of trading profits to 80% for November 2020, before dropping back down to 40% in December and January. This therefore increases the total level of the grant from 40% to 55% of trading profits for 1 November 2020 to 31 January 2020. The online service for the next grant will be available from 30 November 2020. HMRC will provide full details about claiming and applications in guidance on GOV.UK in due course.

Self Assessment Deadline

The deadline for self assessment is fast approaching and as always in order to assist with our workload, as things get super busy in December and January, we need to impose a deadline for your paperwork reaching us, of the 5th December. For all clients who are able to get their paperwork into us by this date, we can guarantee that the submission deadline of the 31st January is met. We will attempt to meet the deadline for anyone that hands their paperwork in after this date as we understand 'life can sometimes get in the way', but we can only work on a first come, first served basis, and naturally depending on the volume of people handing their paperwork in at this time, it may mean we are unable to get through every return on time. For this reason we encourage you to hand your paperwork in to us as soon as possible. Although the tax due in January is being deferred, the returns are still due, and will be subject to the usual penalty scheme if the deadline is missed. You do not need an appointment to drop your paperwork in to us, we still have a drop box at reception for paperwork drop offs and collections..

December Payroll

This year might be a little different in terms of how you are structuring your Christmas salaries for staff, ordinarily a large percentage of our clients have an early pay date in December ahead of the Xmas break.  If you fall into this category, if you can please email Sasha@b-able.co.uk with information on when you plan to pay your team, and we can schedule in a reminder to get in touch with you nearer the time. Our Xmas opening hours are as follows;

  • Closing 23rd December at 5pm
  • Reopening 29th & 30th December - 9am-3pm
  • Closing again until the 4th January at 9am
